And then the refund was just a few hundred dollars. As well, child care is only tax-deductible up to 20%. So if spent $2000 last year, I can only deduct $400 of that. And next year, if I make just a teensy bit more, I don't qualify to deduct any of it.

What really helps you is home ownership. That's where I get the most breaks. Having refinanced this year, not only are my property taxes and interest deductible, but also the points and the wretched mortgage insurance they are making me pay ON THE HOUSE I'VE BEEN MAKING PAYMENTS ON FOR THE PAST 12 YEARS! (#headbrickwall)

How can I have lived in this house for 12 years and still owe only $10,000 less than we did when we bought it??? How is that possible??? Oh, yeah, the $30,000 in new windows we foolishly took a loan out for. Not that we didn't need them badly, but $30K for WINDOWS??? Naive, we.

Okay, that's my rant. I feel for you, I truly do. Sux all around. I just try to tell myself when I have to do my taxes to be thankful because I wouldn't owe any if I wasn't working at all.

Nighfalahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01745824744507928211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8114658220599872354.post-31361518172325846432014-02-07T19:17:55.030-05:002014-02-07T19:17:55.030-05:00Definitely some truth! Nope, lots of truth. Going ...Definitely some truth! Nope, lots of truth. Going back to books, it frustrates me that it's never okay for a girl or woman to just want to be single. Whether as a long term want or a present want. If she wants to be single, she is somehow broken and the right man (or woman even but another person) needs to come along and fix her because none of us, according to much fiction, are whole single. I'm always on the lookout for great characters who are unattached but not painted in any lesser light for that. And that's where we've gotten into trouble with minority groups. Just because the majority thinks "something" should be a certain way, doesn't mean it is the right way. I believe every individual is important and should be valued and recognized and even catered to ... however ... things don't always work out perfectly. And there is that whole supply and demand thing. Insurance companies are going to cater to the group that brings in the most money for them. Society is going to cater to the group with the loudest voices. Friends, however, are going to cater to the individual. True friends. I'm sorry that this is frustrating for you.Margo Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13474612650116392270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8114658220599872354.post-59565287279002591802014-01-17T20:11:56.787-05:002014-01-17T20:11:56.787-05:00Welcome to the terrible world of wealth redistribu...Welcome to the terrible world of wealth redistribution. Which doesn't have too much to do with Single vs. Married. Many married people have both spouses working, which increases their tax burden, sometimes dramatically to where if one of them quit and they reduced expenses, they would be much better off.

But in your case, you have every right to rant. What is really happening here is the Baby Boomers spent all of the money they had from previous generations. Then raised your taxes. Then spent those. Then borrowed against their retirement. Then your retirement. Then borrowed against, well, nothing really, thereby creating inflationary pressure that is causing your paycheck to shrink in the opposite way (what you spend things on).

Obamacare is a great example of wealth redistribution. You will be told to suck it up and eat your poop cake if you complain too loud, usually by people who work considerably less than you do.

Here is what the Baby Boomers are saying: You suck, Artemis, and we hate you.Lucas Darrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01405530729663443670noreply@blogger.com
